It needs some work but I talked the sellers down to $385,000 for it.  There are no catastrophes, it just needs fixing and painting.

I really tried hard to buy a house in the same county as my job, but I’ve been working on that for six months now and I haven’t had any success at all.  Prices have gone up about 10k every single month during that time, making what once seemed like a reasonable proposition (buying a house in San José) into an irrational fantasy.

I’m probably going to make an offer on the Postwar Bungalow as well, but the chances that they’ll accept it are minimal.  My choices are probably the cabin or nothing.  At least out here I can fall asleep listening to the creek after I spend the better part of an hour commuting home from the office.
